Meet a Tax Accountant

How did you find out about SIG?

A coworker at my previous employer took a job at SIG and after starting, spoke highly of the company. She told me about an opportunity on SIG’s Accounting team, so I submitted my résumé.

What made you decide to join our team?

After being in public accounting for two years, I wanted a different experience and to see what the private field had to offer. SIG seemed like a place where I could learn a lot and gain more responsibility with a more diverse mix of work. I was also attracted to the culture and the manageable work-life balance.

What do you like best about working here?

I like how it is a flat organization with a professional, but relaxed culture. Everyone’s opinion matters and the people are all very friendly.

We talk a lot about teamwork and collaboration at SIG. Where do you see this demonstrated in your current role?

Teamwork is key on my team. If one of us is really busy, and another doesn’t have as much on their plate, we help each other out. Sometimes it’s prepping tax documents, reviewing someone’s work, or prepping a tax return while others get the signatures and funding needed.

If you were speaking with a graduate who was considering starting their career at SIG, what advice would you give them?

SIG is a great place to start your career. You get a lot of responsibility right off the bat and everyone you encounter is willing to teach you.

In your opinion, what is the best perk we offer?

I enjoy the on-site gym, catered lunches, and relaxed dress code. I also really like summers here because we can wear shorts.

Walk us through a typical day in your life.

I wouldn’t exactly say that any one day is “typical.” My days vary significantly based on the time of year and projects I have on my schedule. Being in the tax field, during the busy times of the year, my days mostly consist of sorting through important documents, working through the tax returns assigned to me, staying in touch with my managers about any open returns, and just making sure I hit important deadlines.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Philadelphia area?

I live in Jersey but take the train to Philadelphia all the time to meet up with friends or head to a sporting event. Nothing seems to be too far away. Philadelphia has some of the best restaurants around and you can’t beat all of the outdoor activities that are planned during the year.

How does your team impact SIG as a whole?

Simply put, our tax team works together to identify, analyze, and mitigate the tax risk for SIG. We implement strategies in order to reduce liabilities by keeping up with any changes in tax provisions year by year. As a part of the Tax team, I am able to build relative knowledge of the whole firm in order to be effective in delivering our best performance and keeping up with necessary compliance throughout the year.
