Meet a Private Placements Analyst

What made you decide to join our team?

I worked at other financial institutions in New York and London and really enjoyed the pace of the work and the environment, but often felt lost in the crowd in the bigger company. SIG has a fresh take on business culture that encourages innovative thinking and collaboration. I really felt that I could continue to develop skills and learn more about the industry at SIG.

What do you like best about working here?

Every day is a learning experience. You are surrounded by bright, interesting people who make the work environment very easy going and continually educational.

What do you like most about operations at SIG?

I like the problem solving aspect of operations. If a problem arises, you are tasked with finding the solution, and you often get to work with various teams to work out the issue at hand and provide results. You have the ability to genuinely make an impact on a process or a program that will be beneficial to you, your colleagues and the firm.

What projects and experiences have been most rewarding for you so far?

My previous work experiences did not give me exposure to the entire lifecycle of a trade. Here at SIG, you have the opportunity to see all aspects of the industry, from onboarding new accounts to trade settlement.

If you were speaking with someone who was considering SIG, what would you say?

I would say that the culture at SIG is like no other that I have experienced. You have the opportunity to interact with many different teams and constantly learn. SIG provides a great work-home balance and really values the hard work you put in.

If you were speaking with a candidate who was considering taking a role at SIG, what advice would you give them?

Practice your Excel skills! Excel is a key program used throughout the day, and the more you know how to use Excel as a tool of efficiency, the better off you will be.

In your opinion, what is the best perk we offer?

The meals! The variety of options available every day is really amazing. And if you overdo it in the cafeteria, the newly remodeled gym is a great place to work it off.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I can quote about 90% of the movie Forrest Gump, which unfortunately makes watching that movie with me not much fun.

Walk us through a typical day in your life.

My day starts before the market opens, handling margin calls with our counterparties, reconciling the previous trading day’s PnL, and preparing for the trading day. Throughout the day, we also manage the trade flow as a real-time activity, resolving any trade breaks or confirming trades for settlement with our counterparties. Efficiency is always essential, and finding ways to streamline processes is a continual effort, often leading to projects to work on throughout the day.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Philadelphia area?

Philadelphia doesn’t get enough credit for being a center of the arts - culinary arts especially. Delicious meals are easy to come by and there is always a musical performance you can catch at one of the many great venues in the city.
