Happy 30th Anniversary to SIG!

May 1st marked SIG’s 30th anniversary. As a thank you to our employees who have taken us from a PHLX floor trading operation to a global firm of over 1,900 employees, we made sure to celebrate! We surprised the SIG team in our offices around the world with some sweet treats, like Dippin’ Dots, Baked by Melissa, and Insomnia Cookies, plus hooked a few random employees up with some extra spending cash. We’re looking forward to what the future holds as we embark on our next 30 years!

Going All-in on Poker

This year’s SIG annual No Limit Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament brought in over 800 participants, our largest tournament ever! Newbies and poker pros alike from our offices around the world competed for a chance to win cash prizes (our winner receives $15,000!) and a tropical vacation. Our Final Table was played right on SIG’s trading floor at our Bala home office and broadcast live throughout our offices. Congratulations to David, 3rd place from Dublin, Shannon, 2nd place from Bala, and Eric, 1st place from Bala.

On Campus Around the Globe

Our Campus Recruiting teams had a busy spring season! In Dublin, we attended and hosted a range of exciting events. From careers fairs and guest lectures spanning Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick and more, to trading games and poker tournaments, we’ve enjoyed the opportunity to meet interesting students from across Ireland and, for the first time, the UK. In the US, we mentored the women who participated in FemmeHacks, an all-women hackathon held at University of Pennsylvania, hosted a talk to the Temple Owl Fund about volatility, ETFs, and how SIG prepared for Brexit, and shared how our Traders and Quant Researchers work together to create trading models at the Princeton Quant Trading Conference. We are looking forward to many on campus events coming up this fall around the globe!

Connecting with Women in Tech

We were proud to sponsor this year’s Philadelphia Women in Tech Summit. Some of our SIG Women in Tech hosted a workshop at the conference called “From ‘Looking’ to Hired: Advice from SIG Hiring Managers,” where they shared advice on optimizing your LinkedIn profile, perfecting your resume, and confidently displaying your skills during an interview. At our table, we passed out a “conference survival kit,” filled with essentials like hand sanitizer, stain remover wipes, mints, and more. If you couldn’t make the event, you can get a copy of our slides here.

Poker on Campus

SIG On-Campus Poker Tournaments

We wrapped up our campus events for the 2016-2017 school year with poker tournaments at Brown, MIT, and Princeton. It was great to see the familiar faces of our incoming summer interns and full-time employees playing at each of the tournaments. We’ll be back to kick off our on-campus events again in the fall! Thanks to Joseph Lee for the great photos.

A Match to Remember

We had a great time at our annual SIG Day at the Rugby in the Aviva Stadium. We hosted a pre-match reception with finger food and drinks in the Havelock Suite. We also surprised our employees with two rugby stars, Dave Kearney and Jordi Murphy, who stopped by our suite for some photos. We were thrilled to cheer Leinster on to take the lead and beat the UK-based Wasps, securing their place in the European Champions Cup semi-final.

Teaming up to Win Big

Our Sydney office recently hosted a Game Show night at Hotel CBD Sydney. Eight themed SIG teams worked together to answer questions from popular game shows like Minute to Win It, Family Feud, and “Have You Been Paying Attention?” Our winners were treated to a prize and the usual bragging rights!

Spreading Holiday Cheer

Giving back to our local communities is a big part of the holiday season at SIG, and we were proud to contribute to making the holidays a little brighter again this year. Our employees donated to programs across the globe, like the Saint Vincent de Paul Giving Tree, Chicago’s Angel Tree Program, Toys for Tots, Bryn Mawr Hospital’s Adopt-A-Family Program, and New York’s Holiday Food Drive for City Harvest.

‘Tis the Season

One of our favorite yearly traditions at SIG is the holiday party, and this year, each of our offices celebrated with their own unique event. In Sydney, our party was filled with oysters, wagyu sliders, a MC, and even a few magic tricks. In Philadelphia, we enjoyed cocktails and dancing at the Logan Hotel, and in Dublin, our new photo booth and music from DJ Anthony Collins were big hits. Our New York team gathered at Pier A for a raw bar and sliders, while our Chicago team celebrated at Pinstripes on the Chicago River for delicious food and a bowling game or two. Each of our parties give us a chance to catch up with each other and make new connections.
