Full-Time FAQs

How much experience is required?
No financial experience is required. While industry experience may be beneficial in certain roles, SIG is interested in candidates with a strong academic record, good interpersonal capabilities, and the drive to succeed in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Does SIG train university-level hires?
Education is the cornerstone of our success. As a result, we offer formalized development programs in trading, technology, and operations. For other entry-level roles, we offer mentorships, practical training, and classroom instruction.

How do I know which position is right for me?
In most cases, our initial interview provides a good indication of which position would best suit you. Our interviewers are skilled at drawing out your strengths and passions. They will direct you towards the position that provides the greatest opportunity for you to apply your skills and enjoy your work.

How do I apply?
Feel free to talk to our recruiting team when they visit campus and to apply in person. If we do not actively recruit at your school, please explore opportunities on our website and apply online. We review all resumes and we follow up with qualified candidates via email.

How should I dress for an interview?
Our dress code is casual and the work environment informal. For your interview, business casual is appropriate. Suits and ties are not required.

Why choose SIG?
We hope your research of SIG has revealed our history of success and our place among the world’s top financial firms. We’re not stuffy and we avoid bureaucracy and red tape. Co-op/Intern FAQs

What's the difference between a co-op and internship?
Co-ops alternate between college classes and for-credit periods of full-time employment, usually from September to March or March to September, with other opportunities corresponding to academic schedules. Our 10-week summer internships take place before senior year or final term, and are designed to provide practical experience in financial markets, corporate finance, or technology. Whichever you choose, you’ll gain valuable experience working alongside seasoned traders and technologists.

How much experience is required?
No financial experience is required. While industry experience may be beneficial in certain roles, SIG is interested in candidates with a strong academic record, good interpersonal capabilities, and the drive to succeed in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Does SIG train co-ops and interns?
Yes, through specially-designed programs taught by SIG’s education department that cover our distinctive approach to markets and decision making. Additional classes are offered to co-ops and interns that pertain to the area in which they work such as trading, technology, and operations.

How do I know which position is right?
When considering your application, don’t be overly concerned about your major. Instead ask yourself where your true interests and abilities lie. For instance, your interest in finance may lead you to an opportunity in trading, operations, risk management, market intelligence, or private equity. Technology students may apply for positions in Systems Engineering, Software Development, Network Operations, or Information Security. Just have a position or two in mind, and rest assured that our recruiters are well trained to match your talents and interests with the right position.

How does the interview process work?
Unless an on-campus interview has taken place, we begin with a screening by phone, giving you as much information as we can about SIG, and determining whether you meet our basic requirements. We may also ask analytical questions to assess your reasoning and decision-making style.

Final-round, on-site interviews give you the opportunity to explore our workplace at full speed, to interact with employees, and to further demonstrate your analytical and technical know-how. Those who excel see this as an exciting intellectual challenge, not a high-stress exercise. After all, our kind of work requires keeping a cool head under some hectic conditions.

Are positions only open to undergrads?
No. We actively recruit candidates with Bachelors and Masters degrees—even PhDs—from an array of disciplines.

Will this lead to a full-time job?
Many of our co-ops and interns have been offered positions in their departments because of the impression they made during their time at SIG. Co-ops and internships are the best opportunities to make a positive impact while you learn.
